High Style Secretaire

A Very High Style German (possibly Berlin) or Austrian (Viennese) secrétaire à abattant in Slippery Elm (Ulmus Rubra) Wood.

 

The front and interiors have very refined inlays in mahogany; the corners banded in black lacquer and gilt. The arched top features a large drawer; the center a drop front writing surface above three tapering drawers all mounted with gilt-bronze lion masks with ring pulls. This top section is mounted on the four corners of the bottom with four giltwood lion paw feet and resting on a rectangular base raised on four gilt and black lacquer feet.

The drop front open to reveal an arched niche framed by black columns with gilt capitals and base above a drawer with inlays forming a “brick” pattern. Each side has four drawers above a long single drawer at the base.
